Secret Santa

It took us long enough to get mom to sit down at the ol' laptop and get her to share the pics of us opening our Secret Santa gifts, but here they are.

We want to thank our MaPaw Secret Santa for the bewootiful ornaments, (the personalized ones were a great touch!) and the realy cool stocking. Santa Paws was especially good to us this year. We hope everyone's christmas was a very good one.

Getting Settled at the Inn

As you can see, Kenna is making herself right at home at the ol' Stoutino Inn. She has discovered the comfort of the pomegranate couch and her love of the squeaky tennis/football thing. She's a good grrl who knows a lot more that we gave her credit for at first. She does respond to her name and simple commands. We think that awful shelter had her very confused and gave her a bad case of kennel cough too.


Now, a quiz - which dog is which?

Mom hasn't been feeling well either. She's been coughing as much or more than Kenna - daddy joked that she got kennel cough too. Mom says he's not very funny.

Only 3 days until Santa Paws comes! We can hardly wait to see what our Secret Santa has sent to us. We'll be sure to take loads of pictures.

Hello and Goodbye

Friday was Cheyenne's last dinner with us, because she was adopted! A very nice man named Robert needed a knew grrrfriend and Cheyenne was his perfect match. She new something was going on because we all took a trip to Petsmart and got all cleaned up and smellin pretty. New spiffy bandanas too.



Robert wanted a laid back doggie and Cheyenne was perfect. He came to meet her and she greeted him just as a lady would, with gentle kisses and a brief snuggle. Then she laid down and was her calm and quiet self. During the biped talk, she demonstrated her gentle "woof" - just to show she had something to say. It was love at first sight.



The house seemed empty, but we knew it wouldn't be that way for long - and we were right. We are seeing double again!

Saturday night, in comes Kenna! A bewootiful German Shepherd that mom & dad are fostering for Save a Shepherd. She's a good grrrl but she doesn't know any commands! Poor thing barely knows her own name. You know that will change in this house. We work hard at being good at our commands and we go to school to learn more.

Kenna is a big grrrl, bigger than Guinness, but mom is still having a hard time telling them a part. All of the look-alikes we seem to get! Guinness is just happy we don't have another white dog for a change.

Bella says farewell, for now

Well, Bella left for her newer foster home with Blue and Magnum. She's been a good grrrl mostly, with a few misunderstandings. We think she'll be much happier playing with foster Dawkin - both dogs have loads of energy - just maybe they can wear each other out.

As you can see, Bella & Guinness worked out a brief truce. Cheyenne is much happier now that she's not being harrassed and told off every two minutes. She will find a fur ever home, hopefully with another dog to rough house with.

We nominate our extra handsome boyfrrnd, Pippadog, who makes his grrlfriends (and other pups) feel so very special while sharing his exploits of chasing cats & sharing toasties.

Okay, but mom has a few books open right now. She won't share the one she reads at bedtime with us, saying we are too young and impressionable. But she will share the other one she's been leafing through.

Cheyenne has been helping mom find new things to make to help Santa Paws with the holidays. She got mom some books to help her learn and make things. Cheyenne has a definite opinion of mom's ability to grasp knitting as well she has crochet. The titles are, Knitting for Dummies and So Simple Knits.

Bella here is trying to find page 161 for mom. She doesn't think mom is a dummy. She wants to show that even a young pup at 10 months can count that high.

Line 6 of Pg 161 of Knitting for Dummies says: Rows 1 and 5 (RS): Knit. So Simple Knits says: well, nothing, cuz it doesn't go up that far. Pretty simple, huh? Even a dummy can do that!

Mom is not a crochet dummy, though. She just finished a hat for our grandpup and is furiously hooking away other items for under the tree they keep warning us is coming into the house very soon. Humans sure are weird this time of year.

We think Pippadog should do this meme too. We are interested to see if his mistress is reading anything romantic in Spanish.

Visiting for Thanksgiving

Bella ia a visitor to the Stoutino Foster Kennel for this week until her new foster house is ready. She's a young and fiesty grrl from Brooklyn who is learning that her world is bigger than her old apartment. Guinness & Cheyenne are not thrilled that there is another spunky puppy in the house, but Shiloh is happy to have a fiesty playmate. Nice to have a traditional lookin husky in the house!

PS: Cheyenne is going to go to Magnum's house and Bella is going to foster with us! Cheyenne isn't real happy with this energetic grrl but Shiloh is very excited to have a wrestling buddy! See, Pippa, you can invest yourself in Bella and visit Cheyenne at the MaPaw blog too. But she may have too much energy and want to steal your toasties, so you'd better watch out!

PPS: Well, Cheyenne is soooooo depressed with Bella here that we thought she should stay with us after all. Bella is gonna go to Magnum's house and play with energetic Dawkin. Mom says it's been a long week and we tend to agree. So, Pippa, this was not a grrl for you after all. Better stick with Guinness & Cheyenne

Graduation

Cheyenne is now an official Novice Obedience Graduate.

She can be a stubborn grrrl and a true husky, but she does know her commands and will do them for kisses and dried hot dog slices.

Hello all, mom here. I'm a little worried - Not only am I addicted to blogging, but I am apparently on some sort of Martha Stewart inducing crack, because I've gotten this craft bug lately that will not quit. Yesterday, I get this fabulous idea to do scrap book like holiday cards. Seriously, who does this? It must be drugs, because doing this for 200 some cards is just insane. But here is the proof. Haven't done them all yet, but I'm definitely committed now.

And, if that wasn't enough, I've been having this urge to make gifts this year. What the ???? I've been crocheting like my Italian grandmother for weeks.

Really, should I be worried?

Dog Town

Hello everypup, Guinness here. I got to go to the indoor dog park at Dog Town today! I was pretty nervous, I must say. It's hard to protect mom with all of these huskies everywhichway. Mom said I was such a good grrrl and behaved myself like a lady should.

Here is some very big and handsome fellow checkin Cheyenne & I out. We pretty much stuck to the sidelines as we don't like to rough house like the husky boys do.

Cloe the Basset Hound can definitely hold her own against the big boys and even Rocky Pup here.

Mom thinks we all look like we are in jail. Look at all of those snooters.

It was nice to get out and protect mom from all of the huskies today. I stuck by mom like glue because I didn't want her to get lost or stray from the pack - that fence didn't look strong enough to me.

Cheyenne helped by sitting near the gate most of the time. Can't let mom wander loose, she might get lost! Killian was trying to distract her from her job, but she stuck to her resolve so he finally began to help instead.

Shiloh, he was no help at all, he kept goofing off with the boys and keeping up his mission skills by getting confused with the other white dogs.

Lazy Weekends

Hello, blogger dogs. Cheyenne checking in today. Life has been pretty good here at the Stoutino Foster Kennels. Guinness and Shiloh have been teaching me all about life here at the Inn. It's a pretty layed back place, though Shiloh would like it to be more exciting - he would like me to be more bouncy too, but I'm just not that kind of grrrl. I am a very quiet grrrl who likes to stay out of trouble. We go to school on Monday nights when foster mom & dad come home from what they call wrrk. There are lots of doggies at school and we go round in circles a lot, then we practice sit, down, and stay. I get loads of treats for doing these simple things, so I don't mind at all.

They have been taking Shiloh & I to dog parks too. My favorite one is Reservoir Dogs in Phoenixville because it is outside and big with beautiful trees and places to explore. I just adore being outside and I would spend all day outside if I could.

When I first came to this place, I wasn't sure of the rules. Shiloh & Guinness say we don't have very many rules and I have discovered that quickly. I have discovered 2 favorite places. One is the place they call the pomegranate couch. I wasn't sure we were allowed up there so I didn't go there. Then foster mom actually invited me up. I didn't go the first few times, but I finally gave it a try and I really like it. My second favorite place is called a crate. It's very comfortable in there, but Guinness gives me a funny look and sighs a lot when I go in there. Maybe it's her favorite spot too.

I wasn't feeling too good when I first arrived. That terrible shelter I came from made me sick - my ear felt awful. It felt so bad that I didn't mind mom cleaning it out or putting gooey medicine inside my ear. Thank dogness it is all better now, but my ear is still more pink that the other. Pippa, do you like my pink ear? It matches your pink snooter.

We are resting up today. Mom is busy getting ready for the holidays and she's got a big pot of ham & beans on the stove (it smells yummy!) I am resting up for tomorrow - we're going on a play date with all of our husky friends to the indoor park. Guinness is going to come with us for a change, but mom is nervous because Guinness makes a big fuss when out in public. Guinness is mom's special protector and really takes her job very seriously.


Pippadog, this pose is for you. I am not as bendy as you are, but I was inspired by your latest post to give paw bending a try. Foster mom says it's like yoga and I need to practice often. Maybe someday I will be as good as you.


My new favorite thing to do is show off my voice. I am normally very, very quiet. However, just to be sure that they don't forget I am here, once in a while I give a very little "woof" . I get some attention then and the foster mom & dad ask me all sorts of questions. They say I don't speak normal husky, but I just have a sophisticated accent.



Mom's editorial notes: Cheyenne is a very good girl, but does have a little stubborn streak. She would spend all day outside if you let her, just laying in the grass. She is so very well behaved and so very quiet that we have actually forgotten she was in the room with us. We don't think she was allowed to do very much at her old home and she gives us a very surprised look when she's allowed on the couch or when we don't yell at her for her "woof". So, I think we are teaching her to be a more fun doggy (okay, we're spoiling her). She will be great for a family or an older adopter who does not want a high energy husky.

BOO!

We had a Halloween Party at the library during Roll Over and Read this Saturday. All of the kids and most of the doggies were dressed up for the festivities.

Mom says that I'm really a shy ghost and not a lil' devil, but aren't I spooky? See my evil stare? I am trying to make someone give me treats with my compelling stare. "Give me treats or I will take your soul."

Catchin up and the Park

Haroo, Everypup! Shiloh again. Mom has been really bad about letting us post & visit blogs lately - just one more reason I need to keep an eye on her, I guess. We've all been up to many things lately, so I'd better get right to it.

Here is Cheyenne and I runnin around with all of the great pups we've met at Reservoir Dogs Dog Park in Phoenixville, PA. What a great park! If we go around 10 am on a Sunday there are loads of other doggies there to run with - the park is all fenced in and so clean and well taken care of that it's easy to just relax and have fun.

You can see here that the park is gianormous and you can just run and run and run!

Later in the day, after we gave mom & dad a chance to get lunch and a little rest, we took a drive to Lansdale, PA and a new doggie place that had an indoor dog park. Not as big, but it's closer for our MaPaw friends to all come out and play - and boy was there play!

We really confused everyone with our names and white fur.

Mom & Dad were really tired when we got home, so we let them go to bed early so we were all ready for dog school on Monday night.

Redemption

Haroo again, everypup, Shiloh here again. It seems I have redeemed myself today. Mom & Dad went to a place called New York City today to visit some friends and their little bipeds - and they went to a library for a program without me (insert "Harumpf!" here). Anyroo, I was good for Cousin Katie's visit to feed us and let us out today, so mom says she has forgiven me about the great adventure I took last week. Mom was sure I'd give Katie a hard time, cuz I'm so very shy with folks I don't know very well. I have also heard some rumors about a visit to the dog park on Sunday, so I'll be extra good so I get to go there and husky romp. I've read on other blogs and email that it was a good time last week.

M.I.A. - Mommy & Shiloh

Hey there, everypup, it's Shiloh here. Mom went away this week to a convention of sibrarians and she didn't take us. I was really upset - so upset that in the middle of doggy school, I decided to skip out and go look for her. She's supposed to be at school with me, not hanging out with some dude called a Nittany Lion and a bunch of silly book people. I looked across a large field, and I crossed a busy road and I made daddy run after me til he lost his breath. I came back then cuz the lady who gives me hot dog treats was worried about me. Everything is fine now cuz both mom & I are back home where we belongs. She's not gonna do that again any time soon. Roo ya later!

Interview with Zim

Haroo, everypup! Guinness here. We have been honored by handsome Zim, of the famous Army of Four, to be asked for an interview. I would be happy to ablidge:

1. We've seen pix of Shiloh - and now Cheyenne - at school. Do you go, too?

Alas, Zimmie darling, I cannot go to school, as I am extremely protective of mom & dad while I am on lead. I am ashamed to say that I got out of hand and flunked school for disturbing and freaking out the other doggies too much. I am incredibly smart and do listen very well to my mom & dad at home. I would prefer to stay at home than go into public on lead.

2. Since you're a bee-roo-tiful GSD, do you ever feel out of place with all the Sibes at your house?

Funny you should mention that, Zim dear. I do wonder why we GSD's don't count for as much around here. Though I have herd some rumors that things may change in the future.

I am used to playing second fiddle to the more "exotic" dogs in our lives. General was an extremely handsome guy. He always got all of the attention for his gooberness, his large tongue, and his size. Then to be followed by the extremely exotic Shiloh and just what is with all of these white dogs? My brown eyes are soulful and make mommy melt. I was the cutest puppy!bah, blue eyes! And you wonder why I get upset when I am on lead! pht!

Mom, that interloper, I mean Cheyenne, is in my crate again! Do something! In the mean time, I will be here by the door protecting you and dad from other intruders. grrrrzzzzz

3. You're so regal-looking! Do you rule at your house?

I do try to keep order from my perch on the pomegranate couch. Do they listen??? NO! A grrl can only do so much, so I go off, away from the chaos, and ponder my next strategy.

4. You look like you referee when Shiloh plays with other pups. That's what Amber does, too. Have you read "Calming Signals" or does that come to you naturally?

I am famous for my ability to "split" up trouble, especially when it is in protection of my mom, dad, or precious free-bee. I've not herd of that calming thing before - mom, will you bring me that from the library, please?

5. How did you and your family get involved with MaPaw Sibe rescue?

When our dear sweet General was diagnosed with bone cancer, I overherd mom & dad say that they wanted to get another dog for me to play with after General went to the Rainbow Bridge. Friends of theirs brought Shiloh over for a play date with us - he was their foster at the time. General liked him a lot and I did too. When General passed away, Shiloh was still available and he came to our house a week later. They then decided that we had room to foster one doggy at a time and all of this craziness began with noisy Cosmos.

The rumors I was referring to earlier? Well, mom & dad decided that they would also like to foster GSDs! They decided that as our one space opens up, whoever has a dog in need from either rescue gets first dibs. Mom went on her first evaluation for Save a Shepherd today and met - can you believe a WHITE GSD! What is it with these white dogs????? He's supposedly a great dog, but very young, very large, and hard to control because he has more energy that any Sibe we know. What have they gotten me into?

Oh, Zimmie, save me from the insanity......sigh, roo is me......I no longer feel any guilt over accidentally causing mom's old laptop to crash onto the ground and shatter (I pulled it off the table when my tail caught the power cord by mistake.)

Breaking News Pupdate!

Cheyenne will NOT be being adopted to the "approved shelter adopter" cuz he turned out to be a big (Mom is using words I don't feel comfortable using here) and didn't want to pay for v-e-t expenses and didn't want to come to pick her up either.

Mom, don't use those words!

So, Pippa, wanna grrlfriend? I'll be here a little while and I have a cute pink snooter. I learned that word from Zimmie. He's cute too. Zimmie, would you like a grrrlfriend? I like your snooter too.

Getting settled in

We don't know quite how long she'll be with us, but here's a close up picture of Cheyenne. Shiloh may be her twin, but it's in looks, not in play. So far, very little Sibe wrestlin going on here. She's very demure and taking advantage of the relaxing Sunday afternoon to snooze and detox from the shelter.

With her bright round eyes and big Sibe smile, mom thinks she looks surprised and happy all of the time.

You can see that one of her ears is very red and inflamed and if you look closely at her right eye, there is a little growth on the upper eyelid. We've been cleaning that ear and she tolerates that well. Whatever happens, she'll have to go to the v-e-t soon to get the once over.

We even discovered that the outside toe of a back paw is missing from some older injury or surgery - looks like a very clean procedure, whatever happened.

She's very quiet so far and very polite. She takes treats very gently and tried very hard when mom & dad make her do things like "down" and stuff. She'd be a quick study at obedience school. She takes no interest in the fence either.

We'll see what transpires in the next few days.

Meet the new grrrl

Nope, this isn't Shiloh. Meet Cheyenne! She's our newest foster sister and just came to our house today. She's a bit nervous, but very sweet. Everyone is gettin along fine so far. Better pictures will come along soon.

She and Shiloh almost look like bookends. She's just a bit heavier and has a very pink nose. But with two names that sound alike, it's gonna get might confuzin round here.

Wait til she meets all the pups at doggy school! Our teacher is really gonna be confuzed.

Late Pupdate: Ma from MaPaw says someone contacted the shelter about Cheyenne just after Cheyenne left today - they're an approved adopter, so things are already lookin good for this good lookin grrrl! Cross your paws. Wow, these pups are flyin fast these days.

A Misty Update!

Magnum's Dad just got off the phone with Misty's new dad, Kelvin, and he says Misty is fitting in like she has been there forever. She runs around playing with Jessi (her new fur-brother) throughout the whole house and they can't wait to let them outside to run around the yard. They have been training her on the invisible fence, without the electric correction, and she is quickly learning to stay away from the flags. Misty is eating fine and sleeping fine and they are SO, SO happy to have her.

We still miss her lots, but we are so, so happy for her! Thanks everypup for being such good friends to her and crossing your paws.

Kashka already has an interested family, so she may not be coming to our house after all. Cross your paws! She must be a great pup for things to move that quickly.

Shiloh is one lucky dog. He got hold of one ball of mom's precious cashmere yarn! Fortunately for him, he only ruined the label. From the Sole Eater to the (almost) Yarn Eater. Lucky she didn't give him to the gypsies!!!

Okay, she wouldn't do that, but wow, he's lucky. She used his middle name a lot.

Are we ready??????

Hello all, mom here. The kids have let me on the ol' laptop to show off my new yarn. I went to a really nice yarn store in Skippack, PA today called Yarnings. I went to purchase some extra yummy yarn for my bestest friend's birthday present. She wants to learn how to crochet, so if cashmere yarn and a lovely fancy turned hook don't inspire her, nothing will. Of course, I had to get some of that gorgeous cashmere for myself! I wonder what Dave, Guide Dog for the Color Blind, would think of this lovely berry red. I haven't decided what I'm making with it yet - I've limited myself to 6 balls, so I don't think it will be large. Am I really ready for such a daring idea - making something with waaaay expensive yarn?


On the Right is a very inexpensive yarn that was on sale at the crafts store. It's Caron brand Simply Soft Shadows, which I might try to make a shrug out of.

Oh, yes, in the background are stuffed Peep toys - cute huh?

We were contacted today about our possible next foster. Meet Kashka, a lovely husky mix (not sure what yet). She's 6 yrs old and was turned in by her family because the are moving. She's getting stressed up at the shelter, and who could blame her? If all goes well, she's coming to our house tomorrow or the next day.

So, are we ready for the next foster? You bet. Are you ready for your next grrrlfriend Pippa? As long as Guinness is still in your heart, we're sure you have some room for Kashka too. Kashka is the Russian word for cat. Wonder if the other part of the mix is Akita?

Huskies, Vehicles & Books

The last post got mom to remembering one of her favorite all time books - and it has huskies & librarians in it! She's gotta throw in book stuff once in a while or they kick her out of the librarian club.

Aunt Lulu, by Daniel Pinkwater. Aunt Lulu's nephew tells a tale of his big, strong librarian aunt who once lived in Alaska, where she'd harness up her 14 huskies, yell, "Mush Melvin, Louise, Phoebe, Willie, Norman, Hortense, Bruce, Susie, Charles, Teddie, Neddie, Eddie, Freddie and Sweetie Pie," and set off to deliver a sled full of books to the miners in the wilderness. She gets tired of miners & snow, she she decides to move to New Jersey near her nephew and she brings her dogs with her. She hitches them up to a sled with wheels in the summer & wears silly sunglasses - so do her huskies! Mush!

It's an oldie, but a goodie and a must read for little bi-peds who love huskies & librarians. And who wouldn't love huskies or librarians?

This game reminds mommy of the car that dad had when they were young and still dating. He had long hair then and wore a leather jacket and drove a really cool 1967 Ford Falcon. He was very sad the day that car finally went away. Mom was too scared to drive it!

Let's see, we'll tag Kelsey Ann & the rest of the Kapp Pack, Pippadog, Rocky & Mati, and The Husky in the Window! Can't wait to see what kind of vehicles they would be.

A new family

Well, Pippadog and everypup, we have met the potential adopters and, of course, everyone got along great. So, Misty is now spending the first night at her new furever family's house. Her new brother, Jesse dog, is a big playful goober and will keep her on her toes. He loves to play, but he's bigger than Shiloh, so it's gonna take lots of adjustment getting used to everything and everyone.

They will keep in touch to tell us how she is doing, and they look like great doggy loving folks. They've had husky/GSD mixes before and new mom fell for her at Green Lane. she passed dad's approval & Jesse's approval very quickly. She will be very happy there, as long as she doesn't get hold of their chickens. Fresh eggs everyday! Woo Hoo!

Our mommy is very sad and misses Misty's kisses already. But she was a brave foster mommy and said she only cried a little bit in the car on the way home. We will stick close by her tonight, cuz daddy is away tonight too, and make sure she has lots of doggy love. We love you Misty! Woo!

Don't worry, Pippa, she will always be your grrlfriend. she told us to send you very many kisses.

Gentle woos

Mom missed a great opportunity for video tonight. Misty was outside this evening and something got her howling. We finally heard her - she was the only one doing it and we aren't sure what got her going. She has a very sweet, high and subtle woo - very lady like. I hope we get to show you on video sometime soon.

Cross your paws, though. Some very nice folks are interested in adopting her. We will likely be meeting them in the next few weeks. Gosh, we are gonna miss her if she goes! But who could not want that sweet kisser grrl? Uh, oh. Mommy is gettin all squishy again....better go snuggle and make her feel better. She'll always have us.

Back to School!

It's back to school time for us! I L-U-V going to school! As you can see, I am quite happy to be back at school. Misty is too, but she is still recovering from her Meet & Greet Weekend at Green Lane Park this weekend. It was gross, humid and hot, but that didn't stop our girl from kissing every adoring fan in the hopes of finding a fur-ever home. She was a bit kranky on Sunday with the other dogs, but she did her best with the adoring bipeds. She was an awesome girl tonight at school too - she did a perfect recall even though it was gross & hot in our classroom.

The beginner class got to be outside, but by the time they were done we had to go inside cuz it was too dark & buggy. There was a puppy chihuahua no bigger that my paw! He gave mommy baby kisses on her nose.

Speaking of bugs, meet our newest house mate - Boris. This huge spider lives under our outside light. He's got to be the size of a silver dollar. He sure catches lots of bugs in his web.

Daddy thinks he's really cool, but he gives mommy the creeps.
