Goin to the Zoo

Mom and Dad went to the local zoo on Saturday night for something called "Brew at the Zoo." It was a beer tasting event to raise money for charity. We didn't know who charity is, but mom explained that it's a lot like what we are all doing for Hike N' Howl, but the money goes to sick people.

Mom & Dad said that the zoo is very small but a nice place to bring kids and be outside looking at the animals. Mom says zoos can be neat, but it makes her sad to see animals in cages. It was also grossly hot & humid and no one felt good being outside, except for dad cuz he loves to drink & try new beers.

Anyroo, they saw this a couple of great big kitties and some really cool birdies. They tasted the beers and had some food. The heat got too much for them, so they came home early - we didn't mind - more time with us!

Where is your favorite place to sleep?
All of us love to sleep on the pretty pomegranate colored sofa. It sleeps 2 of us very comfortably, so the third doggy needs to swap in once in a while.
Is there a specific trick your humans make you do to get treats?
We go to school and do all sorts of things for treats. Mom & Dad also give us treats when we come in from outside promptly and line up for inspection in the garage before entering the main house
If you could spend an entire day doing anything at all with anyone what would you do and with whom? We huskies would love to spend all day at the dog park playing with loads of doggies there. Guinness would prefer to stay home with mom and dad and catch free bee all day. Or maybe hanging with her handsome Pippa

If you could change one thing in your life, what would you change? We would change all of the sad stories that doggies have into happy ones. We have no idea what Shiloh's days were like to make him so afraid of people when he came to us and Misty knows how stupid some humans could be. That's just not right! Mom, hurry up and be queen of the world so you can change all that, okay?

Water and the power of planning

Mom & dad have always complained about our back yard being too wet - they had nicknamed it "the rice paddy." It never seemed to dry out, even during drought conditions. Never had to water the garden. So, they did lots of homework on what they could do to fix the problem.

Last year, dad put in a dry well to help the water absorb into the ground better. He only got a foot or 2 down when he hit shale, lots of solid shale. He rented the jack hammer, and even with that couldn't get past it after 5 feet. So, we have this slight mound of shale bits and clay dirt out back on top of the dry well. It's slowly sinking. We didn't really seem to see much improvement in the water situation.

So, earlier this year, mom and dad bought & planted 3 birch trees in the back. They were actually sinking as they dug the holes for these trees. They also decided that the back area would be where to place the new garden. Nature can help out with watering.

Believe or or not, they have had to purchase an extra hose and water the garden and the trees!!!!! Unbelievable! And now, of course, it is finally raining. Mom says buying the hose is like washing the car - that made it rain.

We'll see how the rest of the summer goes. It hasn't been that dry this year, so maybe all that planning and work finally cured the rice paddy and we won't have to get our muddy paws wiped down as often.

Humility

Guinness is a pretty humble grrrl. She has been overshadowed by her brothers for most of her life, with the exception of her puppy grrl days - who can resist a puppy? But soon she grew up, still a good lookin grrl, but over shadowed by her stunning big brother, General. He was a large and especially handsome guy with a personality that was wonderful.

Guinness is a sweet, unassuming lady, always a bit shy and a little nervous. Mom says she has eyes of an "old soul" even as a puppy and stunning "eye shadow" to make an Egyptian queen jealous. She is very protective of her pack, so much so that it's hard to take her places on a leash.

Then came Shiloh - the stunning white husky, very shy and with the lightest blue eyes. One look and he has you wrapped around his tenderly uplifted paw. Mom calls it the "Paul Newman Effect." Misty's sparkling personality and multiple kisses are hard to beat too.

So, when mom took this picture, she knew it was time to give Guinness her own post to show how bewootiful she really is. She's a humble lady and wouldn't do this herself. What do you think of this grrl, Pippa?

Cake for Echo

We heard that Echo wasn't feeling very good. We were concerned for him, so we thought we'd ask mom to make him some cake. The pan in the back is brownies. the one in the front is called Coke-a-Cola Cake cuz it's made with - you guessed it - mini marshmallows! Yea, there's cola too - hee hee.

Mom had to bake for a program at work tomorrow, but she always shares. We hope this helps Echo feel better.

Books with dogs for little bipeds

Okay, Sitka, we warned you. You didn't tag us, but mom got wind of that booklist and now you've gotten her started on a booklist! This one will be about dog books for little bipeds.

This first one is for Guinness. Once I Ate a Pie, by Patricia MacLachlan. It has 13 dogs and 13 poems. the one about the GSD is Guinness to a T and the painting looks very much like her. No huskies in this one, sorry. But the poems are great and the art work bewootiful.

Puppies! Puppies! Puppies! by Susan Meyers. "Puppies big and puppies small, puppies short and puppies tall." More than 125 adorable pups frolick through the pages of this jaunty, rhyming celebration of puppiness. This is a perfect book to read aloud to a young dog lover-kids can point out their favorite pups and also follow the journey of one particular pooch from snuggling newborn to proud parent of his own litter. Dachshunds, shepherds, Dalmatians, collies, poodles, terriers, hounds, and ever-popular mutts are "cuddling, kissing, napping puppies, yowling, howling, yapping puppies." We think that there may be a husky in this one too.

Dog Train: A Wild Ride on the Rock-and-Roll Side (Book & CD) by Sandra Boynton. This one is a really silly book & music selection that makes mommy laugh and giggle. She likes Sandra Boyton's artwork and sense of humor.

Puppies, Dogs, and Blue Northers: Reflections on Being Raised by a Pack of Sled Dogs by Gary Paulsen. This guy knows all about us northern breed dogs cuz he's raised them and raced them.

The Dog from Arf! Arf! to Zzzzzz is a silly book with those crazy pictures of doggies wiff big noses.

There are loads of doggie books for little bipeds and bigger ones too. Shiloh reminds everyone to read to their doggies cuz we like stories too. But don't leave the books around were puppies or bored doggies can chew them up. We know you only chew up the one's you don't like, but we computer savvy dogs could write them a bad review instead.

Little Things Mean a Lot

We are all doing a little happy dance, cuz our blog has had over 500 visitors! We never thought we'd be so popular and we wanna thank all of our doggy, kitty, and hamsterbrarian friends out there for taking an interest in our silly bloggy. We've really had a lot of fun sharing our photos, talking bout stuff and learning new things together with everypup.

500 is a big number. What would you want 500 of? Hmmmm, methinks we a smell a new blog game....

Time Capsule & Garden Pupdate

This has been very hard! Everypuppy has had such good things in their time capsule. What else would we put in?

1. Guinness says a Free-Bee, but not hers! Try one of those impostors everyone is trying to get her to play with.

2. Misty says a squeeky kong football, but not hers! ( these girls are very touchy about their toys!)

3. Misty also says Kisses!!!!!! and they can be hers - but how do you save those?

4. Shiloh says yummy beef bones

5. Shiloh also says ice cubes, if you can keep them frozen.

After reading about watermelon slushies, he's been trying to get mommy to let him try one, or maybe make something like that at home. Mom has made Pumpkin & Yogurt frozen treats once, maybe she can do the with other flavors....mom? could ya? huh? please? (look into my bewootiful lite blue eyes.....you cannot resist me....I am too cute...)

Mom took a look in the garden yesterday, and look what she saw! Squash! Lots of butternut squash. We love squash! She is worried about her purple basil though. It seems that it doesn't want to be purple anymore and has decided to start turning into green basil. It smells good and at least the July bugs are leaving it alone.

A Tale of Woo

Shiloh gets most of the spotlight here, but Guinness has her stories.

Guinness loves her Free-bee. It is really the only toy she will play with at all. Free-bee is almost all gone.

We've tried to give her others, but she refuses to play with them.

There will be much wooing and rooing on the day that Free-bee no longer flies.

Shiloh's Debut

It's the dog days of summer reading at mommy's library. Shiloh made his debut as an official Roll Over and Read dog and he did grrrrreat! You could tell he wasn't quite sure at first what was happening, but Dad stayed right by his side and all of his dog friends from school were there to show him the ropes.

Fegus is the Irish Wolfhound - mommy calls him her boyfriend cuz he likes to giver her kisses. But Fergus fell in love with a new admirer this week. Lil' Seymour the border terrier is a pro at listening to kids read. He brough his new lil' bro, Pepe the French Bulldog. Pepe looked like he's been doin this his whole life!

Misty & Shiloh, Virtual Hikers

Hey, Everypuppy! Shiloh & Misty are listed as a Virtual Hikers for Howl n Hike! So, anyone who is not supporting another pup, please do support either of them! Shiloh is special cuz it took him loads of hard work to come out of his shell and be good around people. Misty is special because of her very diligent kissing booth work.

So, while mommy is face painting & tattoo painting, Shiloh can be near her and still do some good for the cause. WOO! Misty will be helpin daddy with the kids activities.

Echo, we'd love to give your mom an official Husky Tattoo that looks just like you! But she says her paint won't stick to your pretty fur very well.

If you look to the right, you'll see the official logo for the Hike n Howl event on September 1st. We're aren't hikin ourselves cuz mom & dad will be busy. Mommy will be face painting & giving husky tattoos (temporary ones for kids that look like us!). Dad will be helpin to enterained the kiddies with games & stuff. There is gonna be food and goodie bags and all in support of a great cause! 3 rescues who help huskies and other northern breed doggies! We have to help them pay for things like Dawkin & Jasper's eye surgery. Maximoose too! And Xia, the pup with the broken leg will need lots of help now that she's safe in rescue. All that and other stuff too, like food and crates.

Craftism

Craft + activism = craftism

Cool, eh? Mom found this website in from her new Stitch 'n Bitch Nation Page a Day calendar (it was on sale for a buck and has cool stuff.) This was from a couple days ago and the links section has all sorts of really cool knitting & crochet sites. Esp cool are the ways to let your fingers & yarn fly to help others in need. And while your tooling around, check out mom's kids at the library learnin how to knit & crochet!

Shiloh is disappointed with the calendar tho - he thought the calendar would have pictures of pretty girl doggies. More knittin stuff (sigh). That mom really needs to keep her hands free for us! Just for that, he says he's gonna shed more on that black crochet skirt she's making.

Love and a glass of wine

One of my best friends was having a very bad day today. He's too far away for me to give him a hug or be of any help. So, I promised him that after I got home from work, I would get myself a glass of wine and offer up a toast to him at 10 pm EST. He's promised to do the same. See, his dog is pretty sick and may not last the week. All he can do is be of comfort to the dog and help her cross over when her time comes. I know General will be here waiting to greet her and show her around.

Love sure hurts sometimes. But we would never know how good love feels if we do not risk the hurt too. And we know in these cases that those who leave us never really stop loving us, and we never stop loving them.

broken howlers

Evidence of our broken howlers. Shiloh, the full husky, is sadly the best wounded baby harp seal of the bunch. Guinness is usually the best howler, but not in her best form here. Misty gave it a good shot.

Playin in the yard

Garden & Knittin Report

Helloo everypuppy. Mommy has been neglecting her garden & knitting reports. So we feel the need to do them for her.

Here is the first evidence of butternut squash! We like squash, so we're happy to see this happen.

There is also the first green pepper, growing very nicely. We don't like those, but mom & dad eat them a lot, so we'll let them grow.

There are tomatoes and herbs too. Mommy and Daddy eat lots of those. Mommy needs lots of tomatoes in order o survive, she says, cuz she's Italian.

The japaense eggplant didn't do as well as the other plants - that's okay with us, cuz we don't like eggplant.

Mom's knitting projects are going slowly along. She's been concentrating on the Harry Potter Scarf for her program at work. It's a good thing children are small - hee hee! This is why she doesn't like doing projects for deadlines. We puppies get in the way too often. It's our job to remind her that we are her first priority.

Dads and Fishin

Dad n Grandpup went fishin this mornin while Mom slept in. We helped mom sleep in too.

We pups didn't wanna go fishin, so we arranged for these two "game wardens" to be sure that their equipment passed inspection and had there licenses.

No fish or foal were actually harmed during this excursion, just bait and pride.

Dogs & the 4th don't mix

We've always said that the 4th of July was not our favorite holiday - it just hasn't ever mixed well with dogs.

Okay, this was a set-up. Daddy couldn't resist when Mom was takin silly belly pictures of Misty. And she just laid there - co-operating.

And fortunately, it rained most of today & tonight, so no big boomies outside. Yea, it ruins the holiday for some, but it makes it a nicer experience for all of us.

We hope all of you had a good day without too many boomies.

Our dog park visit

We went to the dog park this weekend! It was a lot of fun and we got to meet loads of fun. Here's Shiloh, making sure there is a welcoming committee at the gate.
