Garden Report

Hark everypup! Guinness, your weather grrl and garden reporter with a pup-date on the happenings at the Stoutino Inn garden. We have heard from Sir Dunkin about the warm weather we've been experiencing the past few days and we are in for a few more days of high humidity and temps.

Now onto the garden report. Lots of leafy greens and lettuce growing here along with something mom calls nasturtiums. Mom & Dad like to come out here and pick their dinner or lunch. The leafy greens are taking their time getting big and we can all look forward to those in the fall.





The heat has affected the garden this year. Our tomato plants are not very tall and there is one lone tomato growing. Mom is very upset by this turn of events, as she needs her daily tomato rations and with the news of tainted tomatoes lately, she looked forward to ours for mashing and freezing for sauces and such. The eggplant and the peppers are not doing any better at all. We've only gotten one tiny eggplant and have one single pepper to count at this time

The one vegetable that is not being effected by the high temperatures is the zucchini plant. We've gotten several very large specimens thus far and have more growing, as seen here.

We also have a resident at the Stoutino Inn gardens - a toad! We have yet to be able to capture this illusive creature on film, but he quite startled dad the other day while he was weeding. We aren't sure how he got into the garden with the rabbit wire fencing, but he is welcome to stay as long as he likes. He can eat the bugs that might eat our treasures. At least the fence is keeping out the rabbits like it is supposed too.



That's all for the garden report today, pups. Tomorrow is supposed to be another scorcher, so stay cool. I'll be on the pomegranate sofa with the cool air box blowing over me - that's weather anyone can handle!

Snoses, Guinness

Yes, it is that hot

Roo, everydog, it is I, Sir Dunkin, yet again. How embarrassing, but it is indeed that hot! It is hot enough to make any dog shed, but a Siberian husky has more fur than the typical dog to shed. Foster Mother was nice enough to brush me down to help me be a bit cooler. Was it worth the embarrassment? Indeed, it was. I feel so much better that I do not regret giving in for this treatment. In fact, I must say that I rather liked it. Just look at how much fur she brushed out of one side! Imagine if I had let her do both sides. But, I am a Siberian after all and I could not go that far. Besides, I allowed her the other side last week. We cannot let her think she can have access any time she feels like it. I was just too hot to manage not cooperating with the camera. Please forgive me, dear Stormy, I promise to do better about not cooperating in the future.

My recipe for keeping cool: stay in the room with the cool air box, eat loads of ice cubes, relax and let them brush you. Until the next time, Roo.

Apprehension

Roo, Everydog - Dunkin here and I must admit that I am having some trepidations today. Foster Mother says that there is a family interested in me for adoption. They have talked on the phone a couple of times and sound like very nice people and they love my handsomeness on the MaPaw website. I am the featured pet of the month this month! I am humbled and flustered by all of this attention. I sure hope that this family fills out the application soon. Foster Mother says I may stay here as long as I would like, but it is exciting to have people inquiring about me as a possible addition to their family. Especially given my maturity and health issues. I am happy to report that I doing well on my seizure medication and have not had anymore seizures - thank dogness! They were not pleasant at all. I would like to thank everydog for their kind thoughts and prayers - keep them up, they are working! I shall think and pray for all of you as well.

New hobbies

Hello, everyone. Mom reporting today. Yes, the four legged ones actually let in onto the blog once in a while. I thought I would share with Dave, Guide dog for the color blind, the example of the quilt squares we are making for our library quilting class. It is certainly not perfect, but for my first attempt, I am proud of it.

What do ya think, Dave? I wish the colors came out better in the picture - they are very soft but, I think, very pretty. They remind me of sherbet. I did the example to see if we could get done most of the project in the 2 hour time slot we have. I doubt that the kids will get finished, but we will gt them started enough to finish on their own - we hope. We will do all of the cutting for them, so that part will be done. All they will have to do is choose the pieces that they like and sew them together, make the "sandwich," and bind the edges. The applique will be extra if they want it.

I think I've hit on yet another new hobby with this quilting thing. I found myself buying some coffee themed pieces at the fabric store the other day and I've gotten out the huge quilt I started about 5 years ago to give it another go. I will just tie that one - it will look best and it was a very ambitious project for this beginner anyway. The panels are scenes from a medieval tapestry and the body of the quilt is flannel - great for highlighting all of the white dog hair in this house. The picture shows how I bit off more than I can chew with the project. I never do anything small!

Well, the dogs are asking to go outside, so I'd better go before I get clawed. Have a good one and stay cool!

Hotter than Heck

Hello everypup! Guinness, your weather grrl, reporting that it is officially hotter than heck out there. A great day for dad to get out the wading pool. The huskies don't seem to like their paws to get wet, but I'll definitely give it a go. Nothing like a dip to cool off the tootsies. I predict that I will be doing this a lot in the next few days, as it is supposed to be even warmer for a while. Mom has been handing out ice cube treats left and right and we've all been slurping them up. Now if we could just get them to take us back to Brusters for those doggy sundaes....

Oh, yes - a Dunkin update! We thank you for all of the good Sibe Vibes you've been sending his way. They have been working, so keep them coming. No seizures since that first day. We had to cut back on his medication a bit - it was really messing with him. We think we've got it right now, so keep those paws crossed.

We've all been taking it easy in the room with the magic box that blows cold air and eating those ice cube treats. Oh, yes, and shedding, shedding, shedding (mom growls). Even we GSD's have an undercoat to get rid of, so we've been shedding a lot and mom has been chasing after it all with the loud sucking machine. Shiloh has been shedding the most, according to mom, but Dunkin and I are doing our fair share. (more growling)

Dave, Guide Dog for the Color Blind from the Army of Four, might be interested to learn that our mom has taken a step into the world of quilting to help her sister out with a quilting class for the kids at mom's library. Mom said she wished one of us could help us pick fabric like Dave does. We just shed on everything instead. The Spider-man web afghan that mom crocheted for one of the "Catch the Reading Bug" summer reading club prizes has our hair loving woven into it's web. Mom had to work really hard to get it all out before bringing it to the library for display. (mom growls even more) We will try to post some pictures of the quilt squares the kids make if we can.

Seizures

Mom reporting today. We've had a very interesting weekend at our place and we thought we'd update everyone. Thursday the 19th at bedtime, Dunkin had a seizure. He really scared the heck out of everyone. We were hoping it would be the only one, but alas, Friday he had two more. He's now on medication and doing pretty well. Seizure free for more than 48 hours. He's a bit weak in his posterior but otherwise seems unaffected.

We did discover that he likes ice cream. A local ice cream stand called Brusters gives out little doggie sundaes with Milk Bones to their 4 legged customers. YUM! Now when we have ice cream, Dunkin & the crew all expect some too.

Blender Blues

Haroo, puppers. Shiloh reporting in today. I have to say I've got a case of the blues. The blender blues.


Mom has gone off of the deep end or something. Yesterday, she started hacking up all of this pretty colored paper into little itty bitty bits. She gets upset when we do things like that. I have often tried to help them recycle things from the waste basket and I got yelled at. I tried to tell her that shredding paper wasn't right, but she just kept on going.




Then she got out Blender. I got excited then cuz she often uses Blender to make us neato treats for dinner. But she put the bitty paper bits into the blender! Yuk! Then she started this whole weird process of pouring the paper water into this frame thing with netting and what came out at the end? More paper!



I am really confused.


Mom said that she needed to practice making paper to show the kids at the library all about the process of how the ancient Chinese invented and made paper for a program that she's doing later this week. She said that it was fun and she'd keep practicing.

Personally, I think she should go back to making us treats and frosty drinks. I could use a frappachino cuz it's so darned hot here.
