Hi, everyone. Mom reporting in today. I thought that since we reported that Guinness was having some issues earlier, maybe an update was necessary. Unfortunately, the news is not good for my little grrl. Guinness most likely has Degenerative Myelopathy - a condition where her brain is unable to send the proper signals to her muscles. It is like MS for dogs and will keep degenerating as time goes on. Right now she's dragging her back left paw and stumbles quite often. There is no pain, thank goodness. However, she will eventually loose the use of her hind quarters and front as well. So, the decision for us will be how long she has quality of life. We are hoping that it will progress slowly.
We are going to make some changes at our house for her. Weston is going to go to another foster home soon, as he is waaaay too much of a puppy for her. We will, in turn, get an older and slower foster in return so she can be comfortable. So, stay tuned for pup-dates. We know that all of you wish her well and will keep Guinness in your thoughts. Thank you for that. that's why we love blogging so much! You are all terrific friends!

We are very sorry to hear about Guinness. It sounds like you are already making changes to help her out and we know you'll continue to do what's best for her for as long as you can.

Hi, please send me an email at:

I have quite a bit of information about DM. I had a German Shepherd that was diagnosed with it over 10 years ago. There are things that you can do. I also have numerous web sites with fabulous information.
Don't give up. It's not the end yet. Yes, this is progressive but there are things that you can do to slow this down. My dog lived for two years after his diagnosis. He died of cancer and not the DM.
Sorry for the diagnosis, but paws are crossed for plenty of quality time!
Hi, we heard about you from Khyra. We are sad to read about this diagnosis and hope that you can find some things to help make life better for Guinness.
Hugs, the OP Pack
Thanx for the update - we wish it was better news - but will keep our paws crossed that it does progress slowly

Misery has been a bad blogger but I made her come and check on your blog to see what was happening.
So just to say sending loads and loads of snoses to darling Guinness.
Sending cross GSD/sibe vibes across the pond (has to be a good mix).

So sorry to hear about the DM. We've known way too many GSDs who've suffered from it. We have a friend who's living with it right now. Aside from making some home changes, he and his family are managing well.
Wishing Guiness all the best--and you all, too!
